GLO Maker in 200 words

GLO Maker 2 is an authoring tool for creating media rich learning objects. The learning objects can be accessed from the Web or the desktop.

At the core of good learning objects is good design. The learning designs are expressed explicitly in the tool. They provide the framework for creating new learning objects.

When you launch the tool you first go to a “Planner” screen. On this screen you construct or adapt the top level plan for the learning process. This is expressed as a sequence of pedagogical functions (e.g. “orient to” – “comprehend” – “apply”).

You then move to the “Designer” screen. GLO Maker 2 creates a default set of screen layouts to realise the functions that you have chosen. It also provides pedagogical guidance with these screens. At the simplest level you can add content to the layouts provided. The tool supports a range of rich media content.

Save the finished learning object, and load to the Web or Managed Learning Environment.

The learning objects are easy to adapt to suit local needs and preferences. Simply load a learning object back into the tool, make the required changes and save the new adapted version.
